Shar McCrory looking to bring outside experience as SD 57 Trustee

School District 57 Trustee Candidate Shar McCrory is new to Prince George, but she’s looking to bring experience to the role.

She said she’s lived in Northern BC all of adult life, has worked for Northern Health in a variety of roles.

“I’ve always been civic minded, I’m currently on the Board of Education for School District 82 Coast Mountain, and I represent Hazelton at that table, and I’ve held a trustee position for eight years,” she said.

“Public education has always been a part of my advocacy and my volunteering within the community for supporting students and youth however I can.”

McCrory said what’s most important to her is the success of the students.

“I think that we need to ensure that we can provide, safe, nurturing, inclusive, environments for our students and our staff,” she said.

“There’s many things going on in School District 57, and some of the things that I would like to look at and focus on are collaboration with the district and communities on Truth and Reconciliation goals, work on the Special Advisor recommendations, and hopefully we can come to a place of being a better district within the recommendations out of that Special Advisor report.”

She also wants to look at the achievement gap between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous learners, and build connections on all levels.

McCrory added the district needs to be looking at the ongoing bussing issues that started this school year.

The School District Elections, along with the Municipal election will take place on Saturday, October 15th.
