Battleship Mountain wildfire growing stronger due to drought and winds

The Battleship Mountain wildfire, that had the entire community of Hudson’s Hope evacuated in mid September, is still raging thanks to the above normal temperatures and lack of rain.

The BC Wildfire service says crews are continuing to burn potential fuels around the perimeter of the fire to hamper its ability to expand, but activity within the 31,000+ hectare fire is growing more intense.

Right now, there are still 30 firefighters, two officers, and one helicopter assigned to the blaze.

The following roads are still closed due to the fire activity:

  • Johnson FSR beginning at the Gething Creek bridge (40 kilometres up the Johnson FSR from Highway 29),
  • W.A.C. Bennett Dam Access Road (closed to the public at the W.A.C. Bennett Dam), and
  • Utah FSR.

There is no campfire ban in place, but the Wildfire Service is reminding people to be careful and diligent while camping.
