The Heat is on: UNBC varsity soccer teams still jockeying for playoff positioning

If the UNBC Timberwolves fail to secure a home playoff game, they can’t point to a blown lead as the reason.

Two quick goals by Julian Pascual and Malachi Emerson helped the UBC-O Heat earn a 2-2 tie against the T-Wolves in Canada West men’s soccer action on Saturday from Masich Place Stadium.

Kaiden Miner opened the scoring for UNBC in the 12th minute tapping home a loose ball following a corner kick, beating an outstretched Ronon Woodruff for a 1-0 lead.

In the 53rd minute, Abou Cisse made it 2-0 T-Wolves following a great effort by Michael Henman.

There were five yellow cards issued in the game, four of which were against UNBC.

UNBC improves to 6-4-3, while the Heat moves to 4-4-4.

Sandwiched in the middle of everything is the Fraser Valley Cascades who sports a 6-5-2 mark after splitting a pair of games against UBC (3-0 loss on Friday) and Victoria (2-0 victory on Saturday).

UBC is currently in first place in the men’s division at 8-3-2 followed by Thompson Rivers at 7-3-3.

Both the Timberwolves and Heat play again today (Sunday) at Noon from Masich Place Stadium.

On the women’s side, it’s a win, and you’re in scenario for UNBC.

Following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Thompson Rivers on Friday, the T-Wolves cling to life in the Canada West playoff race.

Their chances were aided after the Victoria Vikes fell to the previously-winless Fraser Valley Cascades 1-0 (Friday).

The Vikes then tied the Trinity Western Spartans 3-3 last night (Saturday) to end their regular season with a mark of 4-6-4.

UNBC, who has a record of 4-6-3, has to beat UBC-O (3-7-3) today (Sunday) in order to fully guarantee themselves the fifth and final playoff spot.
