Voter turnout in Prince George up from 2018, but remains low

Voter turnout in the 2022 Municipal Election Saturday in Prince George was up slightly.

Unofficial results show 15,310 ballots were cast from the 58,289 estimated voters, according to Civic Info BC.

Those ballots were good for a 26.2% voter turnout.

According to a Civic Info BC spokesperson, their unofficial and preliminary estimated eligible voter turnout for municipalities province wide was approximately 29.2%.

That’s up from 24% in the 2018 Municipal Election, when 13,184 eligible voters in PG cast a ballot.

That year, the average Municipal turnout in B.C. was 35.6%.

While voter turnout did increase this election in the Northern Capital, it still remained very low as compared to previous elections.

In 2014, 37% (19,710) of Prince George’s eligible voters came out to vote in that year’s municipal election, more than the provincial average of 34.5%.
