Exploration Place to hold grand re-opening at end of October

The long wait is almost over for the Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre.

The facility will re-open to the general public on October 29th.

However, local media as well as healthcare workers, and first responders will receive a “sneak peek” at the upgrades a couple of days earlier (October 26th and 27th).

CEO, Tracy Calogheros told MyPGNow.com they couldn’t settle on an opening date until earlier this month.

“I really don’t know that we had a solid answer on a date until about the beginning of last week. We were hoping to be open last May and then it was June, and then it was September. The delays that the whole world is facing right now are real.”

“The relief is palpable around this building. Everything has been pulled apart while we have been frantically cleaning and starting to get everything back into place. If you are looking in our atrium windows we are doing the final installations of that palaeontology gallery in preparation for next week.”

“We have lots going on and we can’t wait to share it with everybody,” added Calogheros.

She added supply chain issues and labour shortages kept them from opening sooner.

“When you are building something like a museum you have to do things in a certain order. There has to be paint on at a certain time and every little delay adds up and it’s frustrating but it’s really been an education.”

The Exploration Place has been closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic as well as the massive renovation.

“Every renovation has its challenges. Although it took longer than anticipated, we feel that we have done our due diligence to honour the vision so that we can properly serve everyone who comes through the doors,” said Tracy Calogheros, CEO.
