First degree murder charges laid after stabbing death of BC RCMP officer

The 37-year-old suspect in the stabbing death of a B-C Mountie has been charged with first-degree murder.

Jongwon Ham is accused of attacking Constable Shaelyn Wong as she was checking a homeless encampment in Burnaby on Tuesday.

Ham was wanted on a warrant for missing a court date for a previous assault charge but police say they don’t know if Constable Wong was aware of the situation.

Meantime, a joint funeral is to be held today (Thursday) for two police officers who were shot and killed in Ontario earlier this month.

Constables Devon Northrup and Morgan Russell came under fire while attending a residential disturbance call in Innisfil, north of Toronto.
