BCHL: (Showcase in Chilliwack)

Surrey Eagles  4  Prince George Spruce Kings  3  (Shootout)

The Spruce Kings are 6-3-0-1 after 10 games.

They visit the Vernon Vipers Saturday night.

The next home games for the Spruce Kings will be on October 28th and 29th against the Wenatchee Wild.

NHL: (12 Thursday games with all Canadian teams in action)

Minnesota Wild  4  Vancouver Canucks  3  (OT)

The (0-3-2) Canucks have lost their first five games for the first time ever.

They have held the lead in each of those five.

The Canucks, the only team in the NHL without a victory, have their home opener Saturday night at 7:00 against the Buffalo Sabres.

WHL:

The (3-5) Prince George Cougars are on the road for a pair of games this weekend.

The Cougars will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they play the (1-4-1-2) Vancouver Giants tonight at 7:30 in Langley.

They also visit the (5-1-0-1) Kamloops Blazers on Saturday.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18)

The (4-2) U18 Cariboo Cougars visit the (4-3) Vancouver North West Hawks Saturday night at 6:15 in West Vancouver and Sunday at noon in North Vancouver.

The U18 Cougars are in third place out of nine teams and riding a 4-game winning streak.

The (1-6-1) U18 female Northern Capitals host the (0-8-1) Greater Vancouver Comets tonight (6:45 Kin 1), Saturday (5:45 p.m. Kin 2), and Sunday, (8:30 a.m. Kin 2).

The Caps are 4th and the Comets last in the 5-team division.

Canada West Soccer:

The UNBC Timberwolves conclude their regular season in Canada West men’s soccer on the road this weekend.

They visit the (6-5-2) Fraser Valley Cascades tonight at 7:00 and Sunday at noon in Abbotsford.

The (7-4-3) UNBC men are third out of seven teams in the Pacific Division and have clinched a playoff spot.

Michael Henman of the Timberwolves has a league-leading 18 goals.

Henman needs one goal to tie the Canada West single-season record, and two goals to break the all-time conference mark.

The UNBC women’s soccer team finished sixth (out of eight) and missed the playoffs with a 4-7-3 record in the Pacific Division.

American League

Houston Astros  3  New York Yankees  2

The Astros lead the best-of-seven American League Championship Series 2-0 with Game three Saturday (2:07 PT) at Yankee Stadium in New York.

National League

The best-of-7 National League Championship Series resumes tonight (4:37) in Philadelphia with the Phillies and San Diego Padres tied 1-1.

NFL: 

Arizona Cardinals  42  New Orleans Saints  34

The Cardinals are 3-4 while the Saints fell to 2-5.

There are a dozen NFL games on Sunday including Kansas City at San Francisco and Seattle at LA Chargers.

CFL: (Week 20)

This is the second last weekend of the CFL regular season.

Week 20 starts tonight (4:00 p.m. PT) with (4-12) Ottawa at (6-10) Hamilton followed by the (11-5) B.C. Lions at the (4-13) Edmonton Elks (6:30).

Edmonton has lost a league-record 16 straight home games.

The Lions are in second place in the West Division, two points ahead of the (10-6) Calgary Stampeders.

B.C. will play at Winnipeg on October 28th to close out its regular season.

The Stampeders’ final two games are a home-and-home with (6-10) Saskatchewan starting on Saturday (4 PM PT) in Regina and concluding on October 29th in Calgary.

The (1-0) Toronto Raptors play their second game of the season tonight (4:30) against the (0-1) Nets in Brooklyn.
