The Prince George and Bulkley Valley community foundations have teamed up to bring wave three of the Investment Readiness Program to the north.
“If you are a charity, a non profit, a co-op, or a social enterprise business that are in early or late stages of development, you are eligible to apply for this program” said Mindy Stroet, Prince George’s Director of Development.
This is part of a national 50-million dollar initiative to help build up social enterprises across Canada.
In the past, this fund has supported causes all over northern BC.
One that stands out to Stroet is “in Dawson Creek, providing opportunities to those with learning challenges, the ability to get workplace experience.”
Separately from the readiness fund, the Prince George Community Foundation gave over $900,000 to projects across northern and central BC, and Vancouver Island.
This includes $45,963 to the Bulkley Valley Regional Pool and Recreation, $45,963 towards the Pidherny trail system, and $25,000 to the Village of Burns Lake for a sports court.
“Public spaces are the glue to our communities: they enable a feeling of belonging and of social cohesion” said Stroet. “They are a big part of what makes communities safe, vibrant and connected. As Central, North, & Vancouver Island Regions of BC face increased isolation due to COVID-19, these projects from the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative will help our community to connect safely and will benefit the mental and physical well-being of our residents.”
