CHCA Halloween fireworks to return for first time since pandemic

The College Heights Community Association (CHCA) fireworks show is returning to the skies this Halloween.

As always, they will be lit off from the College Heights Secondary School field at 8:15 on Halloween night (Monday).

“We’ve got a moderate show planned, because our funding isn’t as high as it has been in the past because of the two year break, but it will still be great,” said Lisa Parker, the Fireworks Director and CHCA Chairperson.

She said that sponsorships haven’t been as easy to come by this year, between the two years away and rising inflation tightening bottom lines.

“We have gotten more from residents than we have from corporate sponsors this year, which is really weird” Parker said.

Halloween is just days away, but she says donations or sponsorships for this year’s show can be made right up to the event through their Facebook page, by stopping by Kool Cats Kid Care, or even a phone call.

Noise complaints seem almost unavoidable with any firework show or concert – this summer was proof, between Canada Day fireworks and multiple outdoor music festivals.

Parker, however, says the CHCA fireworks show very rarely raises any complaints.

“We advertise the exact time at 8:15, it has been the same time for 30 years” she said. “We have never really had any complaints about our show because it is always at the same time, at the same place, and people know what to expect.”
