Simon Fraser Bridge construction delayed 1 year to fall 2023

The estimated time of completion on the Simon Fraser Bridge upgrade has been doubled.

Observant drivers may have noticed that the road signs quietly changed last week, saying construction will be completed in September 2023.

Today, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure was able to confirm to My PG Now that the project has been extended.

They cite “delivery timelines of deck panel components” as the key issue preventing completion.

They anticipate a construction pause from mid December through March for winter, but they said “the contractor will continue to work as long as weather permits.”

Despite the delay, they said the project budget will remain the same at $20.5 million.

18,000 vehicles cross the Simon Fraser Bridge a day.
