Arctic airmass arrives in PG for city’s first cold snap of the season

Prince George is heading into its first cold snap of the year with temperatures dipping down into the negative teens over the next few days.

According to Environment Canada Meteorologist Mike Gismondi, an arctic airmass has moved into the area causing the cold.

“We’ve got some North winds that are fairly gusty today and very cold temperatures over the next week or so,” he explained.

“We’re looking at temperatures today (Sunday) getting up to the low-to-mid negative teens. That will stay like that for most of the week.”

He added the wind-chill will make it feel more like -25 on some days.

Over the next few days, overnight lows are expected to drop into the high negative teens and low negative 20s.

Gismondi said it should be a dry cold as well, with little snow falling over the next week.

He added we will not be breaking any records for this time of year, as record cold temperatures over the next few days are near -30.
