Prince George’s new City Council sworn in

Prince George’s new City Council met for the first time tonight (Monday) in their inaugural meeting.

The new council consists of Mayor Simon Yu, Tim Bennett, Garth Frizzell, Trudy Klassen, Ron Polillo, Cori Ramsay, Kyle Sampson, Susan Scott, and Brian Skakun.

Each council member gave their Oath of Office before the Honourable Judge Susan Mengering.

During his Inaugural Address, Mayor Yu thanked former Mayor Lyn Hall, and former councillors Terri McConnachie, Frank Everrit and Murry Krause for their years of service as members of council.

“Nearly 50 years ago, I arrived in Prince George, carrying only two suitcases, Prince George took me in,” Yu said during his address.

“Because of this welcoming community, I have been blessed in building a life, a career, and a beautiful, big family. I have always believed I owed this great city everything.”

Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan also gave a welcome to the new council.

The Inaugural Meeting wasn’t all glitz and glam as there was some business for Council to attend to.

An amendment was made to the Council Calendar to move the Regular Council Meeting scheduled for November 21st to the following Monday.

City Staff told MyPGNow.com in an email that this was recommended as not all council members would be able to attend on the originally scheduled date.

The 2023 Council Meeting Calendar and Acting Mayor Schedule was also approved.

Council also appointed Mayor Yu, and Councillors Ramsay, Sampson, and Skakun to serve as Municipal Directors on the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.

Councillor Scott was also chosen to be the Floating Primary Alternate Municipal Director.
