Work on flooding the Ice Oval has been ongoing, if the weather cooperates, the year’s first outdoor skating will be coming very soon.

“We have been flooding four times a day by hose since it started getting cold,” said Kathy Lewis, the President of the Ice Oval Society.

“We have a good base built, it is still extremely bumpy and not ready for skating, but I am optimistic that we could be open early this coming week.”

The oval is in search of seasonal volunteers to help this season run smoothly.

Lewis said part of this search will include an open house on Saturday (November 12) from 10:00 – 12:00 pm, where potential volunteers can find out more information.

“We are always looking for people to help us out with ice maintenance, the snow clearing, and skate rentals,” she said. “It is a lot of fun, we have a great group of people, we have a lot of fun together.”

Skaters can also buy season passes and skate rental punch cards at the open house.

Lewis said 16,000 – 20,000 people use the ice oval every season.
