Air Quality Advisory in effect for PG

Due to stagnant weather conditions, Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for Prince George.

The warning, issued in collaboration with Northern Health, is creating higher pollution levels, and concentrations of fine particulate matter.

As a result, the City of Prince George’s Clean Air Bylaw prohibits all open burning, including backyard burning, and land clearing burning.

During air quality advisories, this bylaw also prohibits recreational fires, the use of wood-burning appliances (except for sole wood-burning heat users), and street sweeping activities.

Furthermore, exposure is particularly a concern for individuals with chronic conditions and respiratory infections especially for pregnant women, infants, and older adults.

Anyone experiencing eye or throat irritation, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, cough, or wheezing, should follow the advice of their health care provider.
