Spruce Kings top Centennials in high scoring thriller

The Spruce Kings fought hard to earn the doubleheader split with the Merritt Centennials yesterday (Friday) afternoon, winning the back-and-forth thriller 7-5.

Evan Fedele’s late third period goal put the Kings up 6-5, an empty net goal would put the game away not long after.

The game entered the third period 4-4, both teams scored two goals each in both the first and second periods.

Though the game was tight, Prince George dominated the shot clock 45-28.

Four Spruce Kings had three point games, lead by Jake Schneider who scored the second and third Prince George goals, both to tie the game.

Luke Eurig had a goal and two assists, Jack Stockfish and Luca Primerano both had three assists.

Merritt’s Jaxson Murray had a goal and an assist in the game as well.

Neither team scored on the powerplay, PG went 0/3 while Merritt went 0/1.

Jordan Fairlie made 23 saves for the win, Connor Sullivan made 38 saves in a losing effort.

The Spruce Kings improve to 10-5-1-1 on the season, remaining in third place in the Interior division.

Merritt falls to 5-10-2-0.

The Spruce Kings will return home for a Wednesday night game against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (7-8-1-0).
