Caledonia Nordic Ski Club getting ready for national ski events

Preparations are well underway for the upcoming 2023 Nordic Canada Selection Trials and the Nordic Cup.

Those events will take place at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club from January 18th to 21st.

Director of Competitions and Chair of the Local Organizing Committee Kevin Pettersen says the cold snap we saw earlier this month helped out in getting the track ready.

“This is a perfect example of where we could actually be making tons of snow,” Pettersen explained.

“There’s some huge snow piles out in the stadium areas, and now the snow guns are being moved up into the trails to get ready for this next cold snap.”

Aside from making sure the track is ready for the races, Pettersen says the next biggest piece of the preparation puzzle is making sure there are enough people to make sure the event runs smoothly.

“We certainly have a good foundation of officials and volunteers, but we always can use more,” he explained.

“We like to ensure we’re building succession planning into our officials and our volunteers as well so we can bring in new people and new people can get really excited about being part of these events.”

Pettersen added he hopes they will be able to use the upcoming event to help train people for more events that are coming up in 2024; the 2024 International Ski Federation Para Biathlon World Championships and the 2024 International Ski Federation Para Nordic World Cup.

He said they’re looking for people to help out in the race and competition offices, in the stadiums to help set up the races, as well as people who can help with posting information on their website.
