The Prince George Cougars have been having some NHL experience helping out with the team lately.
Cougars Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb said in this week’s edition of Hartley’s Cat Scan Podcast that former NHL player and coach Jim Playfair has joined the team in a part-time capacity.
“He comes in for practice and helps out with our team play,” Lamb said.
“It’s been a real joy having him around, all that experience with our younger coaches, with Rigby and Josh Dixon, and picking his brain. I think he’s really helped our organization.”
The Fort St. James native has 15 years of coaching experience in the NHL, including one season (06-07) as the Head Coach of the Calgary Flames.

“He’s from this area, so he’s been out on the ice with us, he’s been in the eye in the sky for a few games, and it’s just part-time, we’re figuring out a way.
When he’s been around it’s been excellent, that experience really helps me out. You can pick his brain about certain areas on your team, and the kids, they really enjoy it.”
Lamb added this has helped the 58-year-old Playfair stay involved in hockey as he looks for his next coaching job.
