“It warms your heart,” Community Christmas fundraiser going strong through day 1

The St Vincent De Paul Society has been at Vista Radio Headquarters all day today (Wednesday), taking donations of money, food, toys, diapers and more for the annual Community Christmas Fundraiser.

“You are always touched by the generosity of this community,” said St Vincent’s Bernie Gould.

People have been dropping off donations at the 94.3 The Goat / Country 97FM / My Prince George Now building on Ferry and Ospika all day long, Gould says a couple of people stood out to her.

“When some little girl comes in with a beautiful doll, and you know in her eyes she would like to keep it herself, or when a mom comes in and each kid gives $10 so we can buy something for a child, it just warms your heart.”

Gould said one woman in her early 80’s named May donated over 60 handknitted scarves.

“There’s touching stories,” she said. “People giving five dollars with tears in their eyes, saying ‘I wish I had more to give you.'”

Everything donated will be sorted into Christmas hampers and given to people who use St Vincent’s services, the money raised will go towards items that those hampers are short on.

Last year’s drive raised over $40,000.

The fundraiser will continue tomorrow (Thursday) from 6:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening.

Donations can be dropped off at or outside the Vista Radio building on Ferry and Ospika.

All day today, on air hosts from both 94.3 The Goat and Country 97FM joined Gould collecting donations.
