Goalie Tyler Brennan and defenceman Ethan Sampson of the Prince George Cougars are among seven players cut from Canada’s world junior hockey team.
A total of 22 players were selected to play for Canada, half of them from the WHL.
Four of the 11 WHL players are from the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The IIHF World Junior Championship in Moncton and Halifax begins on Boxing Day with four games, including Canada taking on Czechia.
PG Cougars forward Ondrej Becher is headed to Czechia’s selection camp.

The (14-14-1) PG Cougars visit the (20-4-1-1) Seattle Thunderbirds tonight (Tuesday) to conclude a six-game road trip.
The Cougars will try to snap a four-game losing streak.
Seattle is second and Prince George is 5th in the Western Conference.

Forwards Koehn Ziemmer and Riley Heidt of the Prince George Cougars are among 40 players invited for the CHL Top Prospects Game set for January 25th at the Langley Events Centre.
In addition, PG product Nico Myatovic of the Seattle Thunderbirds and McBride’s Tanner Molendyk of the Saskatoon Blades will also be suiting up for the game.

The Canucks trail the Flames by four points for the last wild-card spot.

The (14-10-1-1) Prince George Spruce Kings visit the (22-4) Nanaimo Clippers on Friday and the (11-14-0-1) Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday in their final games prior to Christmas.
Prince George is 5th out of 9 in the Interior Division.

The (5-10-1) U18 Cariboo Cougars play the (10-7-2-1) Vancouver NE Chiefs Saturday afternoon at 1:30 and the (11-8) Fraser Valley Thunderbirds Sunday morning at 9 in North Vancouver.

The 4-9 Cardinals lost more than a game as their starting QB Kyler Murray suffered a non contact knee injury.
A source told ESPN there is “little doubt that it’s torn,” referring to an ACL.
The 7-6 Patriots are holding down the last wild-card spot in the AFC with four games remaining.

The World Cup semifinals begin today (Tuesday 11 AM PT) with Croatia against Argentina.
