SD57’s lays out issues to Education Minister

School District 57’s Board are hopeful they convinced the Minister of Education about the issues they face in the district.

The district’s board and staff were able to sit down with Peter Fassbender Monday and discuss the many problems and trials they face in the North.

District Chair Tony Cable says the issue of sustainable funding for schools was brought up.

“The Minister did keep using the same phrase, ‘the reality is the reality,’ and when he talked about how there is no more money,” says Cable, “we did talk about how when he took away $52 million from the public budget, for the public schools he also added $50 million to the private schools.”

Cable says they also discussed vulnerable students, Bill 11 and the fact that exempt staff haven’t had a raise in the past few years.

they are making inroads in making the Ministry of Education and MLA’s realize how important rural education is.
