PG to enter week-long deep freeze starting Friday night

Layer up! – it’s about to get cold again.

Prince George will be experiencing another deep freeze with temperatures plunging into the -30s by the weekend.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, Derek Lee told MyPGNow.com it will begin by the end of the work week.

“Starting Friday night, our temperatures will plummet to the minus twenties and the cold will continue throughout the weekend and into next week. Temperatures are going to gradually decline as we get into the next week – it looks like it will get well into the -the 30s and possibly into the -40s for the night time temperatures.”

Lee added these arctic fronts aren’t uncommon this time of year.

“Cold is always relative. I don’t think the interior will be super-warm for Christmas Day but the temperatures are certainly going to rise by the end of next week. They might possibly drift back to more of our negative teens and not in the negative thirties.”

“The last time we saw cold this late in the season was sometime last year when we saw minus the forties down around Christmas time. It’s not out of the question that we see cold temperatures – the cold may be a little bit earlier as we are mid-way into December.”

On Saturday, the daytime high is slated to be -17 with sunny skies followed by a low of -31.

Sunday’s forecast will be a little chillier with the temperature hovering around -23 with an overnight low of -32.

Temperatures will continue to trend downward on Monday with a high of -28 before dipping to a frigid -33 in the evening.

Lee expects temperatures to warm up just in time for Christmas Day.
