It won’t be until mid-week when the extremely cold temperatures will begin to lift across the Prince George area.
An Extreme Cold warning remains in place for much of the area including the Cariboo as a large arctic air mass hangs around.
Environment Canada Meteorologist, Bobby Sekohn spoke with Vista Radio.
“We will see a gradual backing off with the cold by Wednesday but really it’s Thursday and Friday that we start to see that cold air really move off and allow some moisture to get through and that’s when we could see some snow later this week.”
Daily temperatures will be 15 degrees below seasonal. Sekohn mentioned temperatures won’t be seasonal again until the end of the week.
“We will see a gradual transition by Christmas Day and we might be looking at temperatures close to the average for this time of year.”
Daytime highs are expected to hit the low minus 20s, with overnight lows dipping down below minus 30.
Extreme cold risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Environment Canada is reminding people to dress warmly and in layers, the outer layer should be wind resistant.
