Several flights between Prince George and Vancouver cancelled

Several flights to and from YXS today (Tuesday) have been canceled or delayed.

“This airport right now is 100 per cent available, we’re doing quite a bit of traffic as far as medevac, Victoria, Calgary,” Prince George Airport Authority President and CEO Gord noted.

“What’s really impacting here when you look at the arrival/departure board is Vancouver. As of 7:30 this morning, they were shut down, and I believe they’re back in limited operations.”

Most of today’s cancellations are flights to or from YVR in Vancouver due to heavy snowfall in the Lower Mainland.

“For an airport like Vancouver, that recovery, particularly at this time of year, where they’re operating at 100 per cent load factors is probably going to be difficult,” Duke said.

Duke added the PG Airport Authority doesn’t have the stats on how many people would have been on those cancelled flights, but they were anticipating full passenger loads on every flight for the next few days.

“We do see that Air Canada has an additional section tomorrow, so an additional aircraft will be coming in and out to try and move folks to their destination,” Duke said.

“Really, that’s what we want, we understand this time of year in particular, people want to be with friends and family over Christmas, so the airlines to get additional aircraft planned, once it’s safe and operational down in Vancouver.”
