Cougars acquire physical forward from Red Deer

Cougars’ General Manager Mark Lamb has made his first move of WHL trade deadline week, continuing to add size to his roster.

17-year-old forward Arjun Bawa will be the newest Prince George Cougar, coming with a 2nd and 7th-round pick in the 2023 draft from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for 17-year old forward Ryker Singer.

Bawa was picked in the second round of the 2020 WHL draft, 36th overall.

He is 6’2, 175 pounds – this season he has 2 goals, 3 assists, and 40 penalty minutes in 34 games played.

“Arjun is a player that we were interested in at the 2020 draft. He is a big physical player that will fit well with our forward core,” said Mark Lamb.

Singer was a Cougars first-round selection, the 22nd overall pick in the 2020 draft.

He had 3 goals, 6 assists, and 41 penalty minutes in 34 games.

After he was drafted, Bob Simmonds, the Cougars Director of Scouting, called Singer their “steal of the draft… an elite scorer in his age group. His shot and release are exceptional, he’s hard to play against, and he plays the game the right way.”

Bawa will be traveling to join the team for this weekend’s home doubleheader against the Everett Silvertips, the team does not yet know if he will play tomorrow (Friday).

The WHL trade deadline is on January 10th.
