PG Mayor, BC Premier to meet Wednesday morning regarding Canfor job cuts

Prince George Mayor Simon Yu and BC Premier David Eby will meet face-to-face for the first time.

The Office of the Premier confirmed to MyPGNow.com a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

The location will not be made public due to privacy and safety reasons.

This comes as the BC Natural Resources Forum kicks off today (Tuesday) at the PG Conference and Civic Centre.

Forestry is likely to be the main topic of conversation as it was one week ago Canfor announced the elimination of 300 jobs to its pulp line at the Pulp and Paper Mill.

Eby is addressing the media today (Tuesday) for his keynote address and is also sending a crisis team to the northern capital to help impacted workers access government supports and retraining programs.

Furthermore, a rally in support of forestry and the sector’s workers is scheduled for this evening (Tuesday) at 6:30 PM at Canada Games Plaza.
