Three point nights from Wiebe, Wheatcroft and Ziemmer lift Cougars over Calgary

A huge three-goal third period helped the Prince George Cougars pick up a 6-5 win tonight over the Calgary Hitmen.

Jaxsen Wiebe and and Koehn Ziemmer played incredible for the Cougars, with both of them picking up two goals and an assist.

“You count on your 20-year-olds when you’re in tough times and Wiebe was physical,” said Cougars Assistant Coach Carter Rigby on tonight’s post-game show on 94.3 The Goat.

“You count on those big guys and those older guys in games like this to lead the way, and props to them, they did the job.”

The newest Cougar, Zac Funk, who was playing against his old team, scored his first as a Cougar, and added an assist.

“I’ve had a few chats with him over this last little bit, and been through the experience of a trade myself, and just bouncing stuff off him,” Rigby said.

“Before the game we had a little one-on-one and just said keep it simple, get pucks deep, it’s going to be weird, you’re going to have best buddies on the other squad, and if you keep it simple you’re going to get rewarded.”

On the other side of the trade, former Cougar Carter MacAdams played well for the Hitmen, picking up a pair of assists.

Chase Wheatcroft, a Calgary product, scored for the Cougars as well and picked up two assists.

1,064 fans piled into the Tsuut’ina Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Calgary, and the PG faithful was well represented with the families and friends of the Albertan Cougars.
