Ziemmer shines in front of friends and family in win over Oil Kings

The Prince George Cougars needed overtime to pick up the 4-3 win last night (Saturday) over the last place Edmonton Oil Kings.

It was a bit of a hometown crowd for Koehn Ziemmer, a product of Mayerthorpe, Alberta, which is about an hour and a half drive Northwest of Edmonton.

The Cougars Forward had family and friends make the drive to join the 5,816 fans at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Ziemmer picked up a pair of goals, making it three games in a row he’s scored twice.

“He’s fun to watch, a kid like that can shoot in all areas of the ice, and he doesn’t have to set it up, it’s on and off the stick pretty quick,” said Cougars Assistant Coach Carter Rigby on last night’s Post Game Show on 94.3 The Goat.

Ziemmer added a highlight reel-worth assist on a goal scored by Zac Funk.

Chase Wheatcroft scored the game winner just 46 seconds into overtime.

Former Cougar Noah Boyko picked up a goal and an assist against his former team.

The full box score can be found here.

The Cougars (19-20-4-0) are sitting sixth in the WHL’s Western Conference standings, three points behing the Everett Silvertips (22-20-1-0) and the Tri-City Americans (20-16-4-1).

The full WHL standings can be found here.

The Cougars will now have a full week before returning to action on Saturday at home against the Prince Albert Raiders, starting a five-game home stand.
