When the Prince George Cougars host Prince Albert Raiders come to town on Saturday, it won’t be just another night at the CN Centre.
The Cougars will be hosting Indigenous night, with special jerseys and more to celebrate the Indigenous cultures in the PG area.
During the game, the Cats will be wearing specialty Indigenous jerseys, designed by Cecilia John of the Saik’uz First Nation.
“I designed this Cougar jersey for the ability and the strength of the animal,” John said.
“I wanted this logo to help resemble the Cougars hockey team, which shows strength, hard work, working together, and being on the same page.”
The game worn jerseys are also available to fans through an online auction.
Indigenous Night will also feature the 2nd Mega 50/50 of the season, with a guaranteed jackpot of $20,000.
Proceeds raised throughout the night will go towards the Prince George Native Friendship Centre, the Lheidli T’enneh Elders Society, and the Foundry Prince George.
“This is going to be a very exciting event to be a part of,” said Cougars Director of Business, Taylor Dakers.
“The Cougars are honoured to bring people together from all over the region to celebrate Indigenous culture. We are proud to have fantastic relationships with the First Nations in this area, and we hope to put on a great show for all to enjoy.”
There will also be:
- White rally towels for the first 2,500 fans, courtesy of the Indigenous Police Service
- Bannock and Indigenous Taco specials at the concessions
- Indigenous vendors on the concourse
- Post-game autograph session with the Cougars on the concourse.
The Cougars will also host Nickelodeon Night on Saturday, February 4th, when the Prince Albert Raiders come to town.
