Cars filed in and out of the ICBC garage this morning getting their carseats checked out by professionals.
This is the newest initiative from ICBC and emergency services to reach out to the community and offer a helping hand.
“It is a first for Prince George in a really long time,” said Corporal Jenn Cooper. “We are providing a place for parents and caregivers to get their carseat checked over, and also to provide education on how a carseat should be installed.”
21 vehicles cycled through the clinic, which was a full slate.
Her list of things that can commonly go wrong installing a carseat are:
- How tight the carseat is installed
- The carseat is the wrong size for the vehicle or child
- The harness does not fit the child well
“Every vehicle is different. If you are installing a carseat in a new car, a new carseat in an old car, or have never seen a carseat before, grab your vehicle manual and your carseat manual, sit down and read them both.”
She said there is a clear need for this in Prince George, and hopes to run another clinic in the summer.
