Slowly but surely, the Prince George area is crawling out of this multi-day snow event.
A heavy snowfall declaration has been made by the City of Prince George after 20 cenitmetres fell over the past 24 hours.
Another 5 to 15 cm could fall today (Wednesday) as this three-day winter storm slowly comes to an end.
Environment Canada Meteorologist, Bobby Sekohn told MyPGNow.com they aren’t quite ready to lift the Winter Storm Warning.
“It will probably go through the night until we see the snow taper off overnight and into the morning. We could still get bursts of snow and it may be a little bit up and down and not as consistent as what we have seen but the potential for some heavy snow is still there.”
As per the city’s snow-clearing operations, Priority 1 and 2 routes will be cleared within 48 hours after snowfall ends if at least 7.5 centimetres of accumulates over 24 hours.
Priority 3 routes, which include residential roads, are cleared within 72 hours after Priority 1 (red) and Priority 2 (green) routes are finished.
Sekohn added the plus temperatures that are expected to follow will present their own unique challenges for drivers.
“Anytime that we have that transition from cold and snow to warmer weather, especially that freeze-thaw cycle that is forecasted to occur early next week – it can make for some challenging conditions out there as well as some slippery ones.”
The daytime high for Thursday is expected to reach plus one with temperatures bouncing between plus three and plus five from Friday onwards.
