The (19-21-4) Prince George Cougars are 0-1 on a 5-game homestand that continues Friday and Saturday against the (14-29-4-1) Victoria Royals.

Prince George is tied with Vancouver for 2nd in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference, five points behind Everett and 11 back of 4th place Tri-City.

The Cougars are nine points ahead of the Royals, who are tied with the Kelowna Rockets for the last playoff spot.

BCHL:

The Prince George Spruce Kings hit the road for three games in as many days.

The (20-14-2-1) Spruce Kings will play at Cranbrook Friday, Trail Saturday, and Salmon Arm on Sunday.

Their next home games will be Feb 10th and 11th against Merritt.

Prince George is 4th in the Interior Division, a point ahead of Salmon Arm.

NHL: (Final two games prior to the All-Star break)

The (20-26-3) Vancouver Canucks, who are 2-1 under new coach Rick Tocchet, visit New Jersey on Monday the New York Rangers on Wednesday, and Bo Horvat and the New York Islanders on Thursday the 9th.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18 male)  

The (11-14-1) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the (14-9-3-2) Vancouver North East Chiefs Friday Friday morning at 11:30 and Saturday morning at 9:00 at Kin 1.

Cariboo is 7th and Vancouver NE is 4th in the 9-team division.

(U18 female)  

The (9-16-3) Under-18 female Northern Capitals visit the (3-23-2) Greater Vancouver Comets Saturday afternoon at 3:30 and Sunday morning at 10:30 in Burnaby.

The Caps are 4th and the Comets last in the 5-team division.

Canada West Basketball:

The UNBC Timberwolves have their final Canada West basketball home games of the season as they entertain the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack Friday night at 5:00 and 7:00 and Saturday at 4:00 and 6:00.

The Timberwolves complete their regular season on Feb 10th and 11th at Brandon.

UNBC is 6-10 and in 12th place out of 17 teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions with just four games left.

Thompson Rivers is 5-11 (men) and 1-15 (women).

The top 12 qualify for the playoffs starting Feb 17th.

NBA:

The (23-30) Raptors are 2-3 on a 7-game road trip that will continue Friday night (5:00 PT) at Houston and conclude Sunday (3:00) at Memphis.

NFL:  

QB Tom Brady announced on social media that he is retiring “for good” from football, ending a 23-year NFL career, which included seven Super Bowl titles.

The 45-year-old Brady stated on social media that he “wouldn’t change a thing” about his career.

The Philadelphia Eagles are slight favorites (by 1.5 points) to win the Super Bowl over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The game will be played on Sunday, Feb 12th (3:30 PM) in Glendale, Arizona.
