As the Prince George Cougars take on the Kelowna Rockets tonight (Tuesday), they’ll be taking on another important issue: mental health.
The Cougars, along with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) Northern BC Branch are hosting their mental health awareness game.
At the game there will be several features promoting mental health, including:
- A kiosk for fans to share what mental health support means to them. Messages will be posted on our mental health wall in the concourse of the CN Centre.
- Videos featuring Cougars players talking about the importance of mental health
- Public service announcements about mental health and CMHA Northern BC
- A raffle for a suite that holds 18 people. All proceeds from the raffle will go
towards supporting the CMHA of Northern BC.
The mental health awareness game is part of an ongoing partnership between the Cougars and the CMHA of Northern BC and their Talk Today program.
Since it was launched across the WHL in 2016, the Talk Today program has provided mental health and suicide prevention training to over 1,000 players, as well as over 100 coaches, billets, and staff.
