Spruce Kings drop overtime decision to division’s bottom team

The 9th-place Merritt Centennials snapped a four-game losing streak in front of 802 Prince George fans last night.

Despite the 3-2 score, the Spruce Kings supplied almost all of the game’s chances, outshooting Merritt 40-14.

Down 2-1 after two, it would come down to the very last minute for the Spruce Kings to even force overtime.

Linden Makow scored his 11th of the season at 18:51 of the third to send the game to extra time 2-2.

It would only take 1:35 of extra time for Merritt’s Diego Johnson to seal the deal and secure the extra point.

Prince George was 0/4 on the powerplay and 1/1 on the penalty kill.

The loss moves the Kings’ record to  21-16-3-1, fourth in the tight interior division standings.

Merritt improves to 11-24-3-2.

The two teams will rematch tonight at the Kopar Memorial Arena at 7:00.
