Nechako Lakes School District 91 votes to close two schools

Two schools in School District 91 will be closed as of June 30th.

On Monday night the district’s board voted to close down Fort Fraser Elementary and Sowchea Elementary School in Fort Saint James.

Superintendent Charlene Seguin says both schools were running at low capacity.

“Sowchea was operating below 50% capacity,” says Seguin, “as was David Hoy Elementary School in the town of Fort Saint James.”

Seguin says all the elementary students in Fort Saint James will be moved to David Hoy Elementary School.

Fort Fraser Elementary School students will now be going to the primary school in Fraser Lake and the grade 4-12 school in Fraser Lake.
