It was his second goal of the night as he scored the Cougars’ first goal of the game as well.
“That pucks’ definitely stuck to his stick,” said Cougars Assistant Coach Carter Rigby on last night’s Post Game Show on 94.3 the Goat.
“He had that one breakaway in OT to end it and he tried to go low pad again. He’s so calm on the bench, I grabbed him and said ‘If you get another chance, do the same thing but you got to get it up over a pad, and there he goes he puts it in.”
Last night’s (Friday) matchup was Wheatcroft’s sixth game this month with multiple points.
The Giants had a 3-1 lead in the first 90 seconds of the second period, prompting a Prince George timeout.
It seemed to do the trick, as the Viliam Kmec, Ondrej Becher, and Cole Dubinsky scored to give the Cats a 4-3 lead.
“Props to Mark, it’s a great timeout at a great time to rally the troops, and it was game on from there,” Rigby said.
Skyler Bruce scored his second goal of the game in the first five minutes of the third to force the extra time.
