Manager of Roads and Fleet says residential snow clearing operations to be completed by Saturday

City crews in Prince George are continuing to work non-stop clearing up our roadways following Saturday’s snowstorm.

Jordan Wiseman, the Manager of Roads and Fleet says there were a few more obstacles to overcome as this was the second major snow event in less than a week.

“It was a little bit more challenging given the fact that we had not 100% cleaned up from the first snowfall we received (Family Day Monday). Things are going well, priority one and two-day shift plows will be completed today (Monday) and crews should be in the yellow zone by the afternoon.”

He added while the heavy snow made cleaning efforts a bit of a challenge, a couple of sequences actually turned out perfect.

“We were fortunate in the fact that were able to finish in the green zone late Saturday afternoon before we accumulated enough snow that priority ones and two’s needed to be hit again. So, it actually worked out in our favour.”

This morning (Monday), the City of Prince George issued a heavy snowfall declaration.

Wiseman expects the lion’s share of priority one and two routes to be done within the next 24-36 hours.

“We are hoping by the end of Tuesday night we should have nightshift P1′ and 2’s done and then move on to residential.”

As for when residential streets will be fully plowed, Wiseman says the weekend seems like a safe bet.

“We should be out of residential I would say and back to cleaning up windrows, and widening and pushing back by Saturday afternoon I would say.”

Another 2 to 5 centimetres is expected to fall in PG on Wednesday.
