Former Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall awarded Freedom of the City

Former Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall has been awarded the highest honour a municipality can bestow.

Prior to tonight’s (Monday) City Council meeting, Hall was awarded the Freedom of the City.

“Like the Freedom of the City award, Lyn Hall is something of a rarity,” said Mayor Simon Yu.

“He’s an individual whose accomplishments in our community and on behalf of our community surpass expectations asked by the many office positions and offices he held in his long public career.”

Hall successfully ran for City Council in 2011 following over a decade spent on the Prince George School Board.

Three years later he was elected Mayor, a position he held for eight years up until October of last year.

“Every decision that we made, when it came to whether or not I was going to run again since 2001 was with the family,” Hall said.

“You carry a heavy load in this position, and you take that heavy load. To my family, thank you. Thank you for letting me take this journey that I wanted to take for a number of years.”

The Freedom of the City provides the following:

  • Free parking at a parking space controlled by a parking meter up to the maximum time permitted by the meter and free parking at city lots and parkades where parking is available on a short-term basis.
  • The privilege of being invited to special City Council functions like volunteers appreciation dinners and inaugural council meetings.
  • A photograph of the recipient engraved with the individual’s name and status will be displayed permanently in a prominent at City Hall
