PG’s jobless mark reached 6.6% in February – a spike of over half a point after it came in at 5.9 to kick off 2023.
That’s according to the Labour Division Survey from Stats Canada.
Analyst, Vince Ferrao told MyPGNow.com the volume of people working also took a dip.
“We have just slightly under 50,000 people working – 49,800 is the exact number. A year ago it was 54,200.”
35-hundred people in PG found themselves on the unemployment line in February – a nearly 50% spike from the same time last year when just 18 hundred people were looking for work.
BC’s unemployment rate rose to 5.1% after it was 4.4 in January – that’s still tied for the fourth-lowest among the provinces.
Canada added 22-thousand jobs last month to keep their unemployment rate at 5.0%.
