WHL:

Prince George Cougars  6  Kelowna Rockets  3

Chase Wheatcroft scored twice, including his 46th goal of the season, and added three assists to give him 101 points on the season before 2,025 fans at CN Centre.

The Cougars won the season series 7-2 against the Rockets, winning the last six games (by a total score of 36-10).

Prince George is on the verge of clinching 4th in the Western Conference, as they are
eight points ahead of the (29-26-5-3) Tri-City Americans and nine in front of the (31-29-2-1) Everett Silvertips.

The (34-24-6) Cougars host the (15-42-6-1) Victoria Royals Friday and Saturday.

The Royals lost 11-1 Wednesday night against the Blazers in Kamloops.

PG is 7-0 against Victoria this season, outscoring them by a total of 46-17.

The (29-32-5) Vancouver Canucks, riding a season-high five-game winning streak, are on the road for three games in four nights.

The Canucks play tonight in Arizona and also face off Saturday in LA and Sunday in Anaheim.

BCHL:

The (25-20-4-1) Prince George Spruce Kings host the (26-17-4-2) Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Friday and Saturday before closing out their regular season with a doubleheader in Cranbrook against the (34-13-1-2) Bucks on March 24th and 25th.

Prince George is 5th in the 9-team Interior Division, one point behind West Kelowna, three back of Salmon Arm and just one ahead of Vernon, and two in front of Wenatchee.

Cranbrook has clinched second behind the (45-3-0-1) Penticton Vees.

World Baseball Classic: (in Phoenix)

Mexico  10  Canada  3

Canada finished 2-2 in the round-robin and failed to advance to the quarterfinals.

Jared Young of Prince George played first base for the Canadian team and went 0-for-4 at the plate.

Earlier, the Canadian team beat Great Britain 18-8 on Sunday, lost 12-1 to the USA on Monday, and outscored Colombia 4-0 on Tuesday.

Mexico and the USA advanced to the quarterfinals which will be played Friday and Saturday in Miami followed by the semis on Sunday and Monday with the final on Tuesday (4 pm PT).

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have come to terms with QB Baker Mayfield on a one-year deal worth up to $8.5 million.

 

NBA:

The (33-36) Toronto Raptors continue a 3-game homestand tonight (Thursday 4:30 PT) against the (34-35) Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Raptors are 9th in the Eastern Conference.
