Three Prince George sporting events given provincial grants

The provincial government has split one million dollars in grants between 140 sporting events, including three in Prince George.

They are:

  • The Cross Country Skiing National Championship that happened at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club from January 18-21 – $10,000
  • The Biathlon Provincial Championship, also at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club on February 25-26 – $2,000
  • The upcoming Judo Regional Championship on March 31 and April 1 – $2,000

“Sport events of all sizes motivate athletes to grow and inspire others to play,” said Lana Popham, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.

“These events help create vibrant, active and connected communities, and they boost our reputation as a prime destination for sports.”

Kamloops is hosting the two events that received the most amount of funding – the 2023 CHL Memorial Cup got $80,000, and the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts received $100,000.
