WHL:

Seattle Thunderbirds  6  Kamloops Blazers  3

The victory clinched first place in the Western Conference for the Thunderbirds, who are 18-0-0-1 in their last 19 games.

The Blazers lost for just the second time in their last 21 games and had their nine-game winning streak come to an end.

The (35-24-6-1) Prince George Cougars conclude their regular season with a home-and-home against the (47-12-4-2) Blazers; Friday in Kamloops and Saturday in P.G.

The Cougars are riding a 9-game point streak (6-0-2-1).

The Cougars will play the (32-26-5-3) Tri-City Americans in the first round of the WHL playoffs beginning Friday, March 31st at CN Centre.

The (26-20-5-1) Prince George Spruce Kings close out their regular season with a doubleheader against the (35-13-1-3) Bucks in Cranbrook on Friday and Saturday.

Prince George is 5th in the 9-team Interior Division, however, the Spruce Kings are tied in points with 4th place West Kelowna and 6th place Vernon.

P.G. is also two points behind third-place Salmon Arm.

Cranbrook has clinched second behind the (47-3-0-1) Penticton Vees.

Minor Hockey:

The B.C. minor hockey championships are taking place this week in various cities and communities around the province, including the Under-13 Tier 2 in Prince George.

World Women’s Curling Championship: (in Sweden)

Canada, represented by the Kerri Einarson team from Gimli, Manitoba, has a 5-3 record after an 8-3 loss today (Wednesday) to Germany.

Switzerland tops the standings at 7-0.

Einarson captured the bronze medal at last year’s world championship in Prince George.

Shohei Ohtani emerged from the bullpen and struck out LA Angels teammate Mike Trout for the final out in the game.

Japan posted a 7-0 record in winning the tournament.

 

NBA:

The (35-37) Toronto Raptors, with just 10 games left, begin a 4-game homestand tonight (4:30 PT) against the (32-40) Indiana Pacers.

The Raptors are 9th in the Eastern Conference.
