WHL:

Prince George Cougars  3  Kamloops Blazers  2  (SO Saturday)

Tyler Brennan made 43 saves to lead the Cougars, who were outshot 45-17, including 6-0 in overtime in front of a sold-out CN Centre crowd of 5,880.

Koehn Ziemmer and Chase Wheatcroft scored in the shootout which was won by P.G. 2-0.

Hudson Thornton tallied in the second period, his 23rd goal of the season, which is a new PG Cougars record for most goals in a season by a defenceman.

On Fan Appreciation and Retro Jersey Night, the mega 50/50 jackpot reached just over
$144,000, with the lucky ticket holder taking home half and the other 72 grand going to the BC Cancer Foundation.

The (37-24-6-1) Cougars finished the regular season fourth in the Western Conference and on an 11-game point streak (8-0-2-1).

Prince George will host the 5th place Tri-City Americans Friday and Saturday in the first two games of their best-of-seven first-round playoff series.

The (34-26-5-3) Americans are riding a 7-game point streak (6-0-0-1).

The Bucks tied the game at 3 with 1:14 left in the third period and then won it at 2:36 of OT.

The (27-20-6-1) Spruce Kings finished 5th in the 9-team Interior Division and will start the playoffs against the 4th-place Silverbacks in Salmon Arm.

The (27-20-4-3) Silverbacks had the same amount of points as Prince George (with 57), one behind the 3rd-place West Kelowna Warriors.

The (34-34-5) Canucks, who also beat Dallas 3-1 on Saturday, have won 10 of their last 12 games.

Vancouver, with just 9 games left, concludes a 3-game road trip Tuesday (5 PM PT) against the Blues in St. Louis.

World Women’s Curling Championship: (in Sweden)

Bronze Medal game

Canada  (Kerri Einarson)  8  Sweden  (Anna Hasselborg)  5

This was a rematch of last year’s bronze medal in Prince George that was won by Einarson and her team from Gimli, Manitoba 8-7 in an extra end.

Einarson along with third Val Sweeting, second Shannon Birchard, lead Briane Harris, alternate Krysten Karwacki and coach Reid Carruthers finished the round-robin with a 7-5 record.

The 4-time reigning Canadian champions beat Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa 6-4 in the qualification round and lost to Norway’s Marianne Roervik 8-5 in the semifinals.

This was the 4th straight world championship for the Swiss rink, skipped by Silvana Tirinzoni, finishing with a perfect overall record of 14-0.

The (37-38) Raptors are 9th in the Eastern Conference with seven games left.
