WHL:

The WHL playoffs open with a full slate of eight games on Friday.

The Prince George Cougars host the Tri-City Americans Friday and Saturday before the series shifts to Kennewick, Washington next week.

It will be a 2-3-2 format.

The (37-24-6-1) Cougars ended the regular season fourth in the Western Conference and on an 11-game point streak (8-0-2-1).

The (34-26-5-3) Americans finished fifth and are riding a 7-game point streak (6-0-0-1).

BCHL:

The first-round playoff schedule is out for the Prince George Spruce Kings.

The (27-20-6-1) Spruce Kings visit the (27-20-4-3) Salmon Arm Silverbacks Friday and Saturday before the best-of-seven series shifts to P.G. for Games 3 and 4 Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (April 4th and 5th).

The Spruce Kings finished 5th in the 9-team BCHL Interior Division although they had the same amount of points as the 4th-place Silverbacks, just one behind the 3rd-place West Kelowna Warriors.

Connor McDavid had an assist for his 140th point of the season, becoming the first player in 27 years to reach the mark.

The Vancouver Canucks conclude a 3-game road trip when they visit the (33-34-6) St. Louis Blues tonight (5:00).

It is one of 10 Tuesday games in the NHL.

The (34-34-5) Canucks have won three straight, five of six and 10 of their last 12 games.

Vancouver has just nine games remaining.

The Canucks are 23rd and the Blues 24th in the NHL overall standings out of 32 teams.

City Council to discuss potential purchasing bylaw amendments

Prince George City Council will consider a notice of motion in regards to the disposal of assets at tomorrow's (Monday) meeting. The notice of motion was put forward by Councillors Cori Ramsay and Brian Skakun, and recommends that Council refers the City's purchasing bylaw to bring back options to better articulate section 5.3 of the bylaw. 

Nechako Valley claims PG Bowl win over College Heights

The Nechako Valley Secondary School Vikings are moving onto provincials following a 24-6 trouncing over College Heights in the PG Bowl. "The boys came to play, I'm super proud of them," said Nechako Valley Head Coach Sheldon Brown.
