PGMHCC looking for local advocate

Efforts to get a mental health advocate in the city are ongoing.

The Prince George Mental Health Consumer Council is wanting a person to stand up for those who need help with problems they face with the mental health system.

Advisor Sandy Ramsay says there are people and groups that do advocate for different mental health organizations.

“But there isn’t anyone that people with mental health issues can call up and help them advocate for themselves,” says Ramsay, “so this is why we are lobbying the government, and slowly starting to get this on the go.”

Ramsay says the council is wanting two people who would work with RCMP and different mental health agencies.

She says while people mental health issues are entitled to legal representation, the legal aid system is so overburdened they don’t get the help they need.
