Will’s Sports Shorts; Saturday, April 1

Sports according to Will as of 9:00am

WHL

Tri-City Americans: 6  vs  Prince George Cougars: 4

It was an early April fools joke for Cougars fans last night.

It looked like the Cougars had tied the game with 58 seconds to play, but the goal was waved off.

Tri-City then deposited the puck into the empty net on their second chance.

The Americans led the game 3-0 and 5-3 at different points of the game. Game 2 is tonight at 6:00.

BCHL

Salmon Arm Silverbacks: 2  vs  Prince George Spruce Kings: 1

The goalies in the game were named the first and second stars, and for good reason.

Both faced 35 shots and three powerplays in the game, but it was Salmon Arm who was able to edge out the win.

Game 2 of their series is also tonight at 6:00, in Salmon Arm.

NHL

The Calgary Flames became the last team in the NHL to win a game when trailing after two periods – naturally it was against the Canucks, 5-4 in overtime.

Four Canadian teams are in action tonight:

  • Toronto vs Ottawa (4:00)
  • Carolina vs Montreal (4:00)
  • Anaheim vs Edmonton (7:00)

The Oilers could clinch a playoff spot with a win.

NBA

The Toronto Raptors fell to the 76ers in a high scoring 117-110 game.

They fall to 38-39 on the season, tied with the Atlanta Hawks for 8th in the East.

MLB

The Toronto Blue Jays will lay their perfect 1-0 season on the line this morning, playing the Cardinals at 11:15.

They are one of 15 games taking place today.
