Mother Nature causing a staggered start to PG golf season

Prince George golfers remain in a holding pattern due to the cool spring and late winter snow.

Players are ready to dust off the clubs but some of the course openings are a bit staggered.

Marg Goings, who is the manager at Pine Valley told MyPGNow.com they’ve been open since the weekend and are anticipating another strong season.

“We have our men’s and our ladies’ leagues going on right now. Men’s league is on Tuesdays and women’s leagues are on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We have been pretty busy and it looks like we will be pretty busy for a while.”

Goings noted Pine Valley is one of the first courses to open in our area for the season.

The early response to the current conditions has been positive.

“I’ve had no complaints about it, everybody says it’s a great course and the greens and everything are looking really good.”

Ian Wrynn who is the Director of Operations at Aberdeen Glen stated some snow is still hanging around up in the Hart, which has pushed back when they’d like to open for the season.

“You know, it’s a little tricky when the greens have been under snow for so long. But, as we have taken the tarps off, everything looks to be in really good shape with no damage we have seen so far. We are anticipating a good year again.”

However, Wrynn noted their driving range officially opened today (Wednesday). As for a full opening, that is still a little hit-and-miss.

“I think if we can get the weather to cooperate with us in a little bit I think we can probably get things going in about two weeks, although we don’t have any dates set at the moment.”

Both courses plan to host numerous tournaments this year. Pine Valley is holding the Glow Golf event organized by Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Northern BC, which is slated for August.

The PG Golf and Curling Club told MyPGNow.com they will open up their facility on April 28th.
