Two Rivers Gallery’s newest exhibition, Catherine Blackburn: New Age Warriors and Recent Works is open and ready for the public.
Blackburn is a Terrace-based artist and designer whose work has been featured on Vouge runways in Toronto.
The gallery is broken down into two sections, one more traditional and one more modern.
The gallery says her “New Age Warriors series features beaded warrior garments imagined for the Indigenous women of the future alongside large-scale photographs of these ensembles being worn. She swaps conventional beads for plastic Perler beads and blends familial designs with urban aesthetics like neon and graffiti. This choice of material reflects Indigenous women’s plasticity and adaptability throughout the endlessly changing demands of Canadian society.”
The second portion is called Convergence, which draws from cultural roots but adds a modern flair.
The exhibition will be open until July 9th.
