PG RCMP issue 21 more speeding tickets during continued high risk driving enforcement

The Prince George RCMP’s Municipal Traffic Services Unit is continuing their high-risk driving enforcement.

On April 26th, police held another speed watch campaign, with officers stationed on Ospika Boulevard during the lunch-hour rush.

“In the two hours that police officers were conducting their speed watch, they issued 21 violation tickets to drivers going 25 km/h or more over posted speed limit of 50 km/h,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

Cooper noted driving between 25 and 40 km/h over the posted speed limit comes with a fine of $196 within the municipality.

“Our message to drivers is that the roadway is a shared space and we need to make sure we’re keeping the safety of everyone in mind. One way to do this is to make sure you’re staying within the posted speed limit.”

Police also noted one driver was observed traveling 59 km/h over the posted speed limit, resulting in a $368 violation ticket for excessive speed and a 7-day vehicle impoundment.

Two days before on Monday, April 24th, officers were set up on Foothills Boulevard near Cascade Avenue.

During that blitz, police issued 23 violation tickets to drivers going 25 km/h over the limit.

“This is something that we’ll continue throughout Prince George during the summer months as we see an increased amount of traffic on our roadways, and need to make sure everyone is staying safe,” Cooper said.

Mounties are encouraging everyone to stay safe on the roadways as summer gets underway.
