BC Housing eyes Queensway Motel for supportive housing

BC Housing is looking at the Fraser Inn and Direct Art to accommodate more supportive housing in Prince George.

According to a Community Engagement Summary Report, the crown corporation is looking at purchasing the two buildings, located at 1616 Queensway and 1650 Queensway to provide 30 units of supportive housing.

BC Housing has applied to rezone the subject areas to RM7: High-Rise Residential, to allow housing within the existing buildings.

At tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting, Prince George City Council will vote on the first and second readings of a zoning bylaw amendment to change the zoning.

In a neighbourhood letter attached to the Community Engagement Summary Report, BC Housing said “an operator for this future housing has not been selected yet, but we anticipate using a local provider with experience and connections.”

They add the Fraser Inn would undergo light renovations with particular attention paid to fire and safety.

The Direct Arts building would also be renovated.

Other items on tomorrow’s agenda include a vote on a proposed seniors housing complex and a vote to initiate the process to stop overnight camping at Millennium Park.

The full agenda can be found here.
