Carels signs on the dotted line with PG Cougars

Less than two weeks after hearing his name called at the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft, Carson Carels wasted little time putting pen to paper with the Prince George Cougars.

Carels was the 15th overall selection. The Cypress River, MB product spent the 2022-23 season with the Pilot Mound Academy U15 Prep Team of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

The 14-year-old posted 32 points in 20 games, consisting of 10 goals and 22 assists. In 4 playoff games with Pilot Mound, Carels owned 12 points (3-9-12).

“It is really exciting to sign Carson,” said Cougars’ Director of Scouting Bob Simmonds. “Carson is a tremendous person and comes from a great family and checks all our boxes. He has all the makings to be an outstanding defenceman in the Western Hockey League and we cannot wait to see him at camp in the fall.”
